Austin is the Yin to my Yang - adding thoughtful rationale to my practical viewpoint.

This vidcast grew from years of friendship, collaboration and mutual respect for the different avenues we’ve taken in this industry. Our goal is to share our years of sweat equity in this fairly young industry and offer insights on motion design, so students and professionals alike, can gain perspective and help in the process.

Erin Sarofsky

Owner & Executive Creative Director, Sarofsky
International Conference Speaker
Creator, Sarofsky Labs, a continuing education workshop series

In January 2009, Erin established Sarofsky in Chicago's booming West Loop. Specializing in design-driven production, she and her team collaborate with a range of clients and leaders in advertising, broadcast, network, film and entertainment industries.

Sarofsky is best known for creating gorgeous, innovative main title sequences for television and blockbuster movies including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier", “Ant-Man”, “Doctor Strange", “Animal Kingdom", “Shameless”, “Community” and “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee".

Erin obtained a BFA in Graphic Design and MFA in Computer Graphics at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After finishing her masters, she was hired as a designer by Digital Kitchen in Chicago. There, she rose from Designer to Creative Director, leading high-profile projects, including a main title sequence for "Ghost Whisperer", in which Erin received a Primetime Emmy nomination. Later that same year, Erin was hired by Superfad as Creative Director of their newly-formed New York office. There she met Austin Shaw. Since then, in addition to building her own studio, she has spoken at some of the world's most prestigious design and technology conferences and universities including OFFF, FITC, AIGA, Toronto International Film Festival, Motion Plus Design, SCAD, RIT, Motion, and F5.

Erin’s work has evolved and expanded. Stylistically, she’s become a seasoned, diverse live-action director. Her work is produced with the Phantom camera, which creates unique imagery ranging from high-speed to extreme macro perspective (Animal Kingdom), as well as using design, CG and VFX in tandum with live action to create a distinct, ownable look (Jeep: Halsey). All of Erin's previous work laid the groundwork for the piece she created for Apple; a modern-day mixed media approach to capturing a moment where she reveals all her ideas trapped inside an old journal. The piece was created for Apple’s Artists Series, highlighting the power of their new iMac Pro. Most recently, Erin wrapped a short film set to the song “In the Year 2525.” The film illustrates what happens to a world that stops embracing individuality and leans into conformism. It was created entirely in CG and Erin even had the song recreated by a female vocalist and remastered.

Perhaps Erin’s proudest creative pursuit in recent years is in her personal life. In November 2017, she earned her most rewarding (and exhausting) title, Mom of sweet baby girl, Rocket. From Erin: “Having Rocket has given me a fresh perspective on both my life and work. I'm realizing what it means to take the time to really soak in these moments; it’s like living your life at 90fps, the hugs and giggles and yes, even diapers."

Erin and I met in the mid-2000s working on projects and have been friends ever since. We see this new endeavor as an opportunity to be of service to the Motion Design community.

A lot of people only see the highlight reel, and not the sweat, blood and tears that went into all the years building our craft. This is us pulling back the curtain and sharing what we’ve learned along the way.”
